Martyrs’ Day

The students of Class 1-3, presented their assembly on Martyrs’ Day this morning.

Did you know that India is among other 15 countries of the world where Martyrs’ Day is celebrated! It’s a day when we pay tribute to the martyrs who fought for our country and lost their lives.

Our freedom fighters were the pillars behind the freedom movement. Many of these brave people sacrificed their lives in this quest for independence.

30th January is celebrated as Shaheed Diwas or Martyr’s Day  in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. This date was chosen as it marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, by Nathuram Godse.

23rd March is celebrated as Martyr’s Day to remember  the  three heroes of our Nation who were hanged to death by the British. They were Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar.

Let us not forget the people in the Indian army, navy, air force and police force, who may have lost their lives too  in order to protect our country. Yet our soldiers continue to be true patriots, always prepared to lay down their lives in the service of our motherland. India is and forever will be grateful to them. May God help to maintain the glory and integrity of our great country.
