The Inter-House Debate competition for Classes 5 and 6 was held on 28th August, 2019 in the Mary Immaculate hall (Gymnasium) from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The debates began with the introduction of the judges. The judges for the debates were Ms. Sabiha Umer from St. Peter’s School, I.C.S.E. and Ms. Annette Henriques from St. Mary’s School, S.S.C. The topics for the debates were as follows: 1. Science is Superior to Arts (Green House V/S White House). 2. Tablet computers should become the primary way students learn in class. (Red House V/S Blue House). Before the debates could begin, the rules were read out and the participants were introduced by the chair person. Four students from each house i.e. two students from Class 5 and two students from Class 6 were selected to participate in the debate. The boys displayed their debating skills very well with their fluent English and varied examples to back their stance on the respective topics. In the end, the judges appreciated the effort put in by the boys and gave them a positive feedback.
The results of the debates were as follows:
Debate 1: Green House: 180 points
White House: 193 points
Debate 2: Red House: 186 points
Blue House: 208.5 points
The White House and the Blue House have qualified for the finals. The best speakers were Rehan Shah (Class 6-1: White House) and Jehaan Jain (Class 6-3: Blue House).
