The school organised a talk on ‘ Bullying ‘ for students of class 6. Dr. Zirak Marker was the resource person who conducted the workshop. He is a renowned psychiatrist and psychotherapist with clinical training and has experience of over fifteen years in Educational Psychology. He is currently the medical director of the Aditya Birla Integrated School for children with learning disabilities and psychological /emotional problems. During his talk he touched upon sensitive and important topics which dealt with bullying. Bullying is never fun; it’s a cruel and terrible thing to do to someone. If you are being bullied, it is not your fault. No one deserves to be bullied, ever. He stated that there are four types of bullying which is relevant in our school scenario namely Cyber, Verbal, Physical and Mental. Everyday students are bullied into silence and are afraid to speak up. Let’s break this silence and end school bullying. He also stated that there are three participants involved in any act of bullying: the victim, the one who bullies, and the bystanders. In fact the bully is a victim himself for 80% of the time. The bystanders play a vital role in deciding whether to be a bully or to stand up against the bully and be on the victim’s side. All three categories need to be mindful about the situation and should involve an Adult to solve the problem. In order to develop a person’s mental health the mind needs to be trained and monitored. The session got concluded with an enthusiastic interactive question -answer session. Children should be able to live a life free from bullying and harassment and it is time that we all took a stand against this by fostering the right attitude. This session proved to be very important since in later years this menace will lead to ragging if not eliminated at the source.
